Setting The Standard’s course outline meets the Louisiana State Board’s required hours of study for the standard natural hair course.
The natural hair course offers Future Professionals instruction in all phases of hair care as well as human relations and success training. The course consists of 110 hours in theory, success and professional image training and 250 hours in practical instruction. Those 360 hours are delivered in three phases; History and Professional Image, Science and Professional Hair Braiding.
History and Professional Image – In this introductory course, you’ll learn about your professional image and Ethics, and Human Relations. You’ll also learn the Psychology of Success, and the Guidelines for Student Success.
Science and Theory – In this phase you will learn sanitaiton, bacteriology and safety with tools, implements and equipment. Also there will be theory, practice and lab, with hair analysis.
Professional Hair Care and Braiding – This final phase takes you through client consultation, servicing and retention. You also learn about design consultation and composition. Upon completeion you will be knowledgeable on hatural hair shampoo, blow-dry, comb out and scalp treatments, hair weaving and extention applications. During your last months and weeks toward graduation, you’ll spend your time in high gear, preparing yourself for your future salon career.
